Board of Selectmen

Todd Gelston
First Selectman

Erik Dill
Selectman

I am a lifelong resident of East Haddam, where I grew up, attended all the public schools, and graduated from Hale-Ray High School. Four years later, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering from college. I recently concluded a five-decade career in the aerospace and defense industry, starting as a design and analytical engineer before advancing to manage engineering teams, and later, a department's manufacturing inspection workforce and equipment. In that role, I led a diverse salary and hourly team operating advanced machine tools to deliver complex products on aggressive timelines with efficiency and precision.

Throughout the last 50 years, I've poured my time and energy back into the Town of East Haddam. It began with my service on the River House Study Committee after the state ceased using it for office space. I then represented East Haddam on the Connecticut River Gateway Commission by Town Meeting appointment, rising to Vice Chairman and Chair of the Acquisition Subcommittee during my 15-year tenure. In 1988, I joined the East Haddam School Building Committee—also by Town Meeting appointment—and served as Chairman for a decade, overseeing land acquisition, design of buildings and roads, athletic fields, and full construction. In 2007, I joined the Conservation Commission, leading the Stewardship Subcommittee to develop a robust trail system across our open space properties. Elected to the Board of Finance in 2017, I became its Chairman in 2024. In all, I've served our town on and off for over half a century, always with a deep commitment to its future.

If elected, I look forward to continuing that service as First Selectman. East Haddam is a truly remarkable town—one that stands out with assets few others can claim. It's no wonder so many choose to call it home: a place where you can thrive at work, build a fulfilling life, and raise a family in a wonderful community.

That's why I'm running for First Selectman. I want to build on our strengths and make East Haddam even better for residents and businesses alike. To do that, I've focused my efforts on three interconnected goals that will strengthen our town for generations to come:

Foster Prosperity for All: A thriving East Haddam means a robust grand list, drawing in and retaining successful enterprises that fuel our economy. As the saying goes, a rising tide lifts all boats—lifting families, businesses, and opportunities across our community.

Champion Affordability That Sets Us Apart: We'll aim to outpace most Connecticut small towns in keeping life here within reach. Our prosperity push lays the foundation by easing the tax burden on homeowners through a stronger commercial base. Beyond that, I want to sharpen our focus on efficiency: rigorously asking, "Is this a true need, or just a want?" For every essential need, we'll seek smarter, more cost-effective solutions—without compromising what matters most.

Elevate Quality of Life: We already enjoy a quality of life better than many other small towns, and that's precisely why we're here. As we pursue prosperity and affordability, I aim to safeguard—and enhance—what makes East Haddam special. This means prioritizing public safety, well-maintained roads and safe traffic, academic excellence in our schools, transparent communication on key issues, and the timeless rural charm that defines us.

In short, I'm running to ensure East Haddam remains the wonderful town we cherish—while becoming more prosperous and affordable, all without sacrificing the quality of life that binds us together.

On November 4, your vote will shape our shared future. Please join me at the polls—and vote for me and the entire Republican team. Together, we'll keep East Haddam soaring.

I was born, raised, educated and have a deep vested interest in East Haddam.   I am honored to be the grandson of Bill & Dottie, son of Oscar & Ruth, husband of Denise and father to Nick & Alyssa.

For the past 30+ years I have been employed by Consumer Reports Auto Test Center and as Facilities Manager since 2007.  In this role, I oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility, operational & capital budgets as well as any related capital projects.

In my tenure as a lifelong resident of East Haddam, I have served or am currently serving on the following:

Selectman-2 Terms

Planning & Zoning Commission – 1 Term

Park & Rec soccer coach – multiple years

Election Day pole volunteer

Past Vice Chairman of the East Haddam      Republican Town Committee

Member of the Municipal Office Building Committee

President of The Waterhole Cemetery Association

Parishioner of St. Bridget of Kildare-Past Parish Counsel member

Managing partner of Cloverdale Farm Associates LLC.

I am a fiscal conservative who believes transparency, accountability and a firm handshake are still valued commodities. I believe that residents of East Haddam deserve a strong voice in their local government, and I passionately believe that at the end of each day, it’s okay to question who, why and what for.

In my “spare” time I enjoy spending as many hours as possible with my family, helping out on the family farm, reading American Revolutionary Era history and researching centuries of family genealogy.
